Diversity Resource International (DRI) is delighted to announce that they have been awarded NHS England funding to lead the second phase of the pan-Sussex Diversity in Research Engagement Network (REN). This phase primarily seeks to co-design a community engagement plan for the Sussex Cancer Research Centre (SCRC) using a series of stakeholder workshops and community research fieldwork. For this phase they will be working with the existing community researchers affiliated with REN and recruit five new community researchers with lived experience of cancer screening, treatment or as a carer.
To identify and recruit these new community researchers DRI is working with existing REN Voluntary, community and social enterprises (VCSEs) and other cancer specific stakeholders. Once identified and recruited DRI will assess their training needs and offer community researcher development training. Once trained, all the existing and new Community Researchers will carry out their fieldwork in their respective communities exploring the theme of cancer care and research.
The Community Researchers will participate in three workshops for the designing the Community Involvement and Engagement plan for the SCRC. All the Community Researchers will be offered a further continued Professional development (CPD) programme featuring research capacity-building workshops and standalone modules delivered by REN partners.
All individuals with lived experience of cancer screening, treatment or caregiving who are passionate about contribu1ng to cancer research to improve cancer treatments and outcomes for people with cancer are welcome. While they do not mandate a standard qualification or training as a prerequisite for being a community researcher, some interest and understating of community research is expected. The desirous candidates must be affiliated with a Sussex based VCSE. Community Researchers will work closely with DRI research team, SCRC lived experience lead, and REN leads.
All community researcher time to attend activities (including training, par1cipa1ng in workshops, conduc1ng interviews, analysis and wri1ng findings, and par1cipa1on in conferences) and expenses will be remunerated at the NIHR standard of £25 per hour.
